Week 2 | What Era are We?
Week 2 | What Era are We?
The school holiday begin NOW! However, we still have online class for this DipEd thingy. Jiayou everyone!!! We can do it. 💪💪💪💪💪
For Week 2, we have learnt about the different eras of educational technology. Therefore, I would like to reflect about four eras of digital technology education. Sounds interesting right? Let’s check it out!
As indicated in the diagram above, digital technology education began in the 1950s and continues today. It astounded me since I had not expected technology to be integrated into our schooling as early as that year. It has been demonstrated that our forefathers were capable of thinking beyond the box.
As a result, the first era is known as the "Pre-Microcomputer Era." I believe that not everyone had a computer at the time. We may argue that it will provide a significant edge to those who can afford and utilise a computer in this period.
The second age, the Microcomputer Era, I suppose, is the era of my parents. During this time, I recall my father doing some work on a large, hefty computer. As a result, it differs from earlier eras in that everyone will have at least one computer in their home at that time.
The Mobile Technologies Era is the most recent era. I recall having accounts on social networking sites such as Myspace, Friendster, and Yahoo Messenger in the past. However, as time passes, I continue to utilise social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and others. Personally, I believe that this period is evolving too quickly for us to keep up with new technologies and applications.
As a result, I can remark that, following the Covid-19 pandemic in our nation, it is really beneficial to be in the fourth age, where we can simply do online lectures and tests. We may utilise a variety of online platforms to aid our teaching and learning processes in the Mobile Technologies Era. I can't imagine if this pandemic occurred in the pre-internet age, when not everyone has access to a computer and the internet isn't widely used. Technology is advantageous in a variety of ways, notably in the field of education. The more technology progresses, the more benefits it offers to teachers and students. Till we meet again!
